Capturing Love: The Art of Lesbian and Gay Wedding Photography

About six months ago, I called up the president of, Kathryn Hamm with an idea.  This idea, very quickly came to fruition in the form of a book.  Capturing Love is live today in limited release.  I am incredibly proud and humbled by this project.  Just like launching Greener Photography in 2008, this has been a huge learning experience.  Please do take a look at the book, it is pretty darn fantastic.  As always, I welcome your feedback here, in the forum or by email.

Thea Dodds is the owner/photographer of Authentic Eye Photography a boutique wedding and portrait studio based in New Hampshire. Thea is also the co-founder of Greener Photography, a non-profit dedicated to reducing the photo industry's impact on the environment.

Visit to order the book and find a list of our scheduled appearances. Also “like” us on Facebook ( capturinglove) for the most up to date information on our book release and appearance schedule.

Greenzu Solar PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)

I've heard of a company out there that will pay to install and maintain solar panels on your commercial building, then you buy back the electricity.  So no upfront cost and a price per Kw/H 10-20% less then your current provider.

Too good to be true?  You tell us.  Has anyone out there done this?  Please share!!

Using Your Member Badge

2012ScreenSize copy2.jpg

I just printed my 2012 pricing menu (a 5x5 trifold from ProDPI) which includes the beautiful Greener Photography member badge.  It was the first time that I saw the member badge in print....and it looks stunning!

I hope all of you are taking advantage of this beautiful icon and putting your commitment to the environment in front of your clients.  Remember, Your values, have value!  So say it loud and say it proud!

'Tis the Season to Renew!

Dear Members!

Many of you who have been with us since the beginning had special accounts that didn't expire.  Cool, huh!  That means many of you got a few extra months for free.  Fortunately for us, we have fixed that glitch.  So many of your accounts are coming up for renewal at the end of the year.  You should get a strangely phrased, computer generated email prompting you to renew.  We certainly hope to have you back!  To encourage you to renew we are running a 30% off special with the code RENEW11.

Finao's new artONE Fine Art Album

Finao is utilizing Hahnemühle German Etching paper for its new "artONE" fine art album which is made from 100% cotton and pure alpha cellulose.

"Cellulose is considered the greenest of the green because it is an inherently recycled material. It is the most common organic compound on Earth.  Cellulose is the structural component of the primary cell wall of green plants, many forms of algae and the oomycetes" says Finao co-founder and self-confessed 'steam that drives [Finao's] decisions', Christine Perry-burke.

So what about albums created on bamboo or sugar cane? Are these albums any greener than a cotton/cellulose base product? Sugar Cane and Bamboo are first reduced to cellulose before being made into paper making the artONE one of the greenest album alternatives in the marketplace.

"Our ink choice is considered the best there is. It has the highest Wilhelm rating for color fastness.  We choose these more expensive materials because we know they produce a better product without compromising our core company policies."

Finao will deliver a "Certificate of Authenticity" with every album to assure your clients that their album is an original piece of art.

Here are some ways Finao strives to deliver quality environmentally-friendly products and create greener solutions:

• "pleathers" are all PVC free.

• Do not use hides that have been tanned in Asia.

• Product packaging is completely green:
* Hand-made recycled pineapple leaf paper used for wrapping
* Hand-made recycled Mulberry leaves used for the ribbons
* Mulberry skeleton leaves used for decoration
* Natural kraft tissue used in wrapping and packaging
* Corn starch peanuts used as packing materials
* Paper tape used to seal all boxes
* Completely recyclable cardboard used for packing and shipping

• All packing is made from all natural organic materials that can be reused and recycled.

• Packaging peanuts received from Seldex are biodegradable and any unused peanuts are recycled to a pack and ship facility.

• Every possible scrap of paper, glass, metal and plastic is recycled.

• Finao albums are constructed from as many natural, post consumer, and completely recyclable materials as possible.

• Everything is made by hand.

• Finao products are made in the USA, as are all their component parts.

• All of our associates have excellent working conditions, a great heath care plan, and completely paid leave and holidays.

Now That's Recycling!

This news story made me smile. It seems so appropriate for summertime, as our kids are at loose ends and spend their days exploring, playing make-believe, and learning in their own intuitive ways.
