Simply Color Lab
GP: How green is your business - what green business practices do you embrace?
SCL: We work diligently on implementing company-wide, environmentally-friendly practices such as an in-house recycle program on our office papers and supplies. We also work with our employees on ways to reduce the amount of paper usage while printing. As part of an industry that has notoriously attributed to many harmful chemicals and waste product, we look for green practices that offer both high-quality product and an environmentally-friendly process. This is why we have chosen to utilize 100% digital printing wherever we can.
GP: How green are your products - what green products/components do you offer?
SCL: We are constantly searching for green products to offer our customers. As I mentioned, we offer 100% digital prints which gives us and our clients the peace-of-mind knowing that no chemicals have been used. In addition to our printing process, we offer many environmentally-friendly products. Our Bamboo and Sugarcane papers both utilize natural materials that grow back much faster than traditional pulp papers allowing a sustainable supply of these products. Our Eco-Board for mounting prints is partially composed of recycled materials and formulated to decompose in landfills in a short amount of time. All of our frames are eco-friendly with our Solid Wood Frames being from sustainable-wood forests and Enviro Frames being made from 80% recycled material.
GP: Why did you choose to offer green products and implement green business practices?
SCL: It was an internal initiative since our company began. We started printed 100% digital with our Canvas Print line. We have always continued to search for green options. As they become available, we feel it is important to think about and choose sustainable business practices-those we can implement now, as well as seeking out new ways to be proactive in our efforts.
GP: How has offering green products and implementing green business practices affected your company?
SCL: We have had an extremely positive response from our customers conveying their gratitude in our efforts to be green and the green products we offer. We feel we are making a positive impact on the environment through increasingly environmentally-friendly practices which in turn, affect us all. Though some of these actions may not be readily apparent, we know that we are making a difference by eliminating many of the after-product and negative effects on the environment that would occur through traditional practices.
GP: What are your hopes for a greener photographic industry?
SCL: We hope that more businesses and photographers within the industry will develop, seek out, and implement green practices both internally and externally. We would love to find additional high-end paper lines from recycled papers and sustainable forests. Furthermore, we would like to see a program developed for recycling/reusing of cameras and camera batteries.
GP: What is your favorite eco website or eco-product that we may not have heard of?
SCL: Well obviously we love http://GreenerPhotography.org, but we also love http://TheDailyGreen.com which gives information about how we can all make our lives more green every day. We especially love their green cleaning recipes for non-toxic home cleaners. We at Simply Color feel it is equally important to be green at home and green at work.
