Winter 2010 Membership Update

Thank you for your interest in Greener Photography membership and photographer certification. Greener Photography is proud to announce our new member certification process.There are three levels of certification, each with increasing "greenness" and demonstration of commitment to the environment. Each level of certification will be represented by a special logo.

Basic level members qualify by demonstrating a sincere effort to integrate a number of greener business practices.

Premiere level members qualify by exceeding the basic level requirements and demonstrating more integrated greener business practices, as well as a greater commitment to the environment by offering greener products.

Leadership Circle members qualify by demonstrating an advanced commitment to greener business practices, greener products, and to leading the way to change in their community and in our industry.

We believe that by certifying members at three different "shades of green" members will be encouraged to become more green and will have a road map to follow. The three levels of certification will also provide more meaningful information to clients seeking greener photographers.

Q: Who should apply for Greener Photography certification?
A: Any professional photographer who is making an effort to run a greener business, and wants to be recognized as such! We welcome all professional photographers across disciplines to join us in making our industry a greener one.

Q: I'm a current Greener Photography member. Do I need to re-apply?
A: All current members must complete the new application to keep their membership and directory listing in good standing. The new approval process will result in a more meaningful affiliation.

Q: When can I apply?
A:
The new application will first be released to current members, and then to those photographers on the waitlist before being made more widely available. If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please email thea@greenerphotography.org. Applications will be sent via email to current members and waitlisted photographers starting in February 2010 on a rolling basis.

Q: What is the cost to apply?
A: The new approval process fee schedule is as follows:
One-time application and review fee of $95 due before beginning the application
Membership fee of $85/year due upon membership approval

Q: I'm not sure that I will qualify; what is involved in the application process?
A: Approval is gained bydemonstrating a minimum number of environmentally friendly practices. Basic approval is very attainable and includes questions such as:

For cooling, we do not use central air/air conditioning units or our thermostat is set on 78 degrees or higher.

Q: What if I pay the $95 application fee, and I do not qualify for the Basic level?
A: If you do not qualify for Basic certification, your application/screening fee will be applied toward reapplying within 6 months of your original application. By going through the application process, you will receive concrete ideas on how to make your business more green. By implementing these ideas, you should be able to achieve Basic certification when you re-apply.

Q: What are the benefits of membership?
A:
The benefits for the 3 levels of membership include:

Basic:
• 
Access to the forum (starting in Spring 2010)
• Use of the prestigious Greener Photography Basic certified logo on your website, promotional material, etc.
• Discounts from participating businesses
• Targeted market exposure - business listing and link to your website in our online community directory
• Free subscription to our e-newsletter

Premier:
All of the benefits of the Basic level, plus:
• Your business will be listed before all basic level listings in your primary state in the member directory
• Opportunities for publication on the GP website and its associated organizations

Leadership Circle:
All of the benefits of the Permier level, plus:
• Your business will be featured at the top of your primary county in the member directory
• Opportunity to inspire others as a GP mentor, presenter, and spokesperson
• Eligibility for Greener Photographer award of the year
• Chance to be featured in the Spotlight of the Month on the GP homepage

Q: When will I find out if my membership application has been approved?
A: You will receive an immediate email acknowledging receipt of your application. Please allow 6-8 weeks for us to review your application; we will contact you if we have any questions or need clarification.
